The show was originally broadcast during the day in black-and-white.
The Dating Game was an ABC-TV show created by the legendary Chuck Barris, which aired in its original form from December 20, 1965 until being dropped on July 6, 1973 (It aired in various other incarnations through the years thereafter).
Hosted by Jim Lange, the show usually involved a bachelorette that would question bachelors that were hidden from her view, choosing her date at the end of the show based on their answers.
When a prime-time version began in 1966, both versions were broadcast in color, making it the first ABC daytime series to be broadcast in color on a regular basis.
It is believed that the daytime versions were generally erased after broadcast (which was a standard practice at the time), but at least 25 episodes are known to exist (23 of which were aired on the Game Show Network at some point).
